Thank you very much for your interest in our homepage and our school/our kindergarten. Welcome to the Deutsche Schule Tokyo Yokohama!
The DSTY is the oldest German school in East-Asia. It was founded in Yokohama in 1904 and officially opened in May 1905.
Our new school building that we moved to in 1991 can be found at the northern edge of the city of Yokohama. It is surrounded by a quiet residential area and is easily reached by car or train. The modern and well-equipped facility provides a perfect environment to study for every age group - from the kindergarten to the Abitur.
Our school includes the primary school as well as the secondary school 1 and secondary school 2. As an acknowledged German international school, we present every successful student with a graduation certificate (Hauptschulabschluss, Realschulabschluss, Abitur). The courses and lessons are taught in German. The classes are mixed nationalities: German, Swiss, Austrian, Japanese - students from almost 20 nations are here at the DSTY. It is our duty to do the best we can to offer our children solutions, a successful studying area and an age-based personality development.
Our school mission is the guiding principle for our educational approach in which we combine experience, enthusiasm and openness. Education and teaching are not only an obligatory challenge for us in the classic subjects, but also in extensive special tuition, a wide range of school clubs and activities, a wide variety of sporting activities using fully-equipped facilities. Our school surroundings - including the commonroom, sports field, assembly hall, school canteen, library - and our regular exchanges with Japanese and International schools all combine to provide the perfect opportunity for successful study.
The international profile of the DSTY was strengthened by the introduction of several bilingual elements and courses in school year 2012/2013 and the possibility to participate in English courses taught by native speakers. We also offer a preparation course for the English test TOEFL. Not only English, but also Japanese courses were modified and improved. There are now the subjects "Japanese as Mother Tongue" and "Japanese as Optional Subject". Starting next school, year a course/club for receiving the JLPT certificate should be available. For more information, feel free to look through our website. You can also find helpful information about the enrolment process and our school bus service.
I hope that we can give you an informative virtual insight in your daily school life and our community. Do not hesitate to visit our school if you are in Japan - we are looking forward to welcoming you soon.
